My heart goes out to the victims of terror at the Boston Marathon, those who lost their lives and those who must bear senseless suffering from their injuries. In a sense all Americans are the victims of this event, as it brings us back to the point that there are people in the world bent on harming us, to make us live in fear. If we succumb, they win.
We saw a little fear at work late today in what was already a weak session. The Dow was down about 75 points in the last hour (265 points on the day) as the market began to pick up rumblings of the happenings in Boston. The carnage continued in the after-hours trading. The financial media will make much of this, as the event might weaken confidence, in what has been termed a fragile recovery, and drive us back into recession. Importantly, we have been here before and we have survived much worse.
